Casio Launches Hokusai-Themed G-Shock Watches Inspired by Japanese Art

January 1, 2026 by Harish Reddy Gudi

Casio has introduced two new Hokusai-themed G-Shock watches in Japan, blending traditional Japanese art with the brand’s iconic rugged design. The limited-edition models draw inspiration from the works of Katsushika Hokusai, one of Japan’s most celebrated ukiyo-e artists.

These watches are part of Casio’s ongoing effort to merge cultural heritage with modern watchmaking.

Art Inspiration Behind the Watches

Both models are inspired by Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” series, one of the most influential art collections in Japanese history.

  • The artwork is printed directly on the dial
  • Each design references a specific Hokusai masterpiece
  • The visuals remain subtle but detailed, staying true to G-Shock’s minimal aesthetic

Model 1: DW-5600KHFM25-1JR

This version takes inspiration from:

  • “Under the Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa”
  • Features:
    • Calm blue tones
    • Architectural elements from the original artwork
    • A clean layout that complements the classic square G-Shock design

Model 2: DW-5600KHSH25-1JR

The second model is inspired by:

  • “White Rain Under the Mountains”
  • Design highlights:
    • Dramatic contrast inspired by rain and mountain imagery
    • Earthy shades that reflect the original print
    • A more dynamic visual appearance compared to the first model

Special Design Touches

Casio has added subtle details to enhance the collector appeal:

  • LED backlight reveals the artwork more clearly when activated
  • Kanji character for “Japan” engraved on the case back
  • Classic DW-5600 square case, known for durability and comfort

Core G-Shock DNA

Despite the artistic makeover, the watches retain standard G-Shock features:

  • Shock resistance
  • Water resistance
  • Reliable digital timekeeping
  • Long battery life

This makes them suitable for daily wear, not just display pieces.

Pricing & Availability

  • Price: ¥18,700
  • Approximate India price: ₹10,722
  • Availability:
    • Launched in Japan
    • No official confirmation on the global or India release yet

Who Are These Watches For?

These Hokusai-themed G-Shocks will appeal to:

  • Art enthusiasts
  • G-Shock collectors
  • Fans of Japanese culture
  • Buyers looking for a unique, story-driven design

Final Thoughts

Casio’s Hokusai collaboration is a thoughtful mix of heritage and modern design. By turning famous ukiyo-e artwork into wearable pieces, Casio continues to prove that G-Shock can be expressive without losing its rugged identity.
