Snapdragon Wear Elite Brings On-Device AI and 5G to Next-Gen Wearables

March 4, 2026 by Harish Reddy Gudi

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite, unveiled at MWC 2026, is the company’s most capable wearable chip to date — built on a 3nm process and designed to run AI models directly on the device.

Snapdragon Wear Elite chip announced at MWC 2026 with on-device AI and 5G RedCap support for smartwatches

The platform’s specs represent a significant generational jump:

  • 5-core CPU layout: one performance core at 2.1GHz paired with four efficiency cores
  • Dedicated Hexagon NPU with support for AI models up to 2 billion parameters, processed locally
  • Up to 5x CPU and 7x GPU performance improvement over the previous generation
  • Integrated connectivity stack covering 5G RedCap, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, UWB, GNSS, and satellite
  • Up to 30% better battery efficiency compared to the prior platform
  • OS support confirmed for Wear OS, Android, and Linux

Running 2B-parameter models on a wearable chip without offloading to a phone or cloud marks a clear shift in what smartwatches and fitness devices can handle independently. The integrated satellite support also extends connectivity options well beyond typical wearable use cases.

What to watch:

  • Consumer devices based on Snapdragon Wear Elite are expected to launch later in 2026
  • Linux support opens the platform to non-consumer and industrial wearable applications
  • On-device AI at this scale could reduce reliance on companion smartphone apps for processing
