UPI One World Wallet Debuts at India AI Impact Summit 2026

February 18, 2026 by Harish Reddy Gudi

National Payments Corporation of India has rolled out a pilot of the UPI One World wallet at the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

The move is designed to give international delegates direct access to India’s real-time payment ecosystem without traditional onboarding barriers.

The summit is being held from February 16–20 in New Delhi.

Here’s what the pilot enables.

What UPI One World Offers

For global visitors attending the event:

  • Access to UPI payments
  • No Indian bank account required
  • No Indian mobile number required
  • Direct merchant payments via QR

This removes two major friction points that usually block foreign users from using UPI.

Instead of navigating local SIM activation and bank linking, delegates can transact immediately.

Why This Matters

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has already transformed domestic digital payments.

Now, this pilot tests its global usability in a live international setting.

Key implications:

  • Real-time cross-border retail payments
  • Faster onboarding for tourists and business visitors
  • Lower dependency on card networks for small transactions
  • Seamless QR-based merchant acceptance

For merchants:

  • No new hardware needed
  • Standard UPI QR compatibility
  • Real-time settlement

Strategic Timing

Launching this during the India AI Impact Summit is deliberate.

The event brings:

  • Delegates from 40+ countries
  • Policymakers
  • Tech founders
  • Financial ecosystem leaders

By enabling live payments during the summit, India is demonstrating infrastructure in action, not just policy announcements.

Bigger Picture

UPI has already expanded internationally through partnerships in select markets.

This wallet pilot signals:

  • A push toward easier global participation
  • Positioning UPI as a tourism-friendly payment layer
  • Reducing reliance on traditional international payment rails

If scaled beyond pilot mode, this could simplify travel payments in India significantly.

For global visitors, it means:

  • Scan and pay
  • No currency exchange complexity
  • No temporary SIM activation

For India, it reinforces its reputation as a leader in real-time digital payments.

The pilot phase will likely determine how the system performs under real-world international usage.

If successful, broader rollouts could follow across airports, tourist zones, and major business events.
